Drawing with my children has reminded me of how to create new worlds – and of the pleasure of just drawing for drawings sake. They create worlds full of soldiers, monsters, aliens, adventurers, super heroes, rockets, tanks and ships all set within a new universe.

As they were raiding the felt tip box to create multi coloured dimensions I began to repeat this pyramid theme as we drew and talked. I patiently did several of them with a 2B pencil. I gave one to my brother-in-law who took it back to Australia with him. He hung it in his house and so I asked him to photograph it for me to see. Since I started this series I had wondered how to adapt this theme to a screen print. And here it is. There is something very satisfying about it. I like the ambiguity of the scale and the uncertainty of whether its an ancient civilisation or the microscopic backside of an animal. I think I will pursue this motif and do some more.

This is the sixth installment of my 12x2014 series. I have no agenda – just to take an idea and apply it to a screen print. Do one every month in 2014 and initially print 12 of each design, using GFSmith Colourplan paper.
